Welcome 6th Grade Students!

Hello Dodgen families! Our 6th grade students rotated through each of the connections on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday of this first week of school. It is now time for them to choose which music group they would like to join! We hope that 100% of 6th graders will be involved in the music program this year.        The Dodgen Choral Program is excited to invite our sixth-grade students to join chorus! The Dodgen Chorus focuses not only on students’ musical and vocal growth, but greatly values teamwork, perseverance, focus, self-discipline, and personal growth. Students have the opportunity to work in many different settings of vocal music, from full ensemble rehearsals and performances to optional individual work with All-State Chorus, Honor Chorus, solo auditions, and small ensemble practices.

The Dodgen Choruses perform at Dodgen throughout the year as well as in other venues in the local community.  We have performed at the Georgia State Capitol, The Avenues at East Cobb, senior living facilities in our area, The Georgia Aquarium, Truist Park, Pope and Walton Varsity Football games, and many more. The Dodgen 8th Grade Chorus has also traveled to Disney World for the last 10 years to participate in the Imagination Campus vocal workshop.

Dodgen is also very fortunate to feed and prepare students for two wonderful high school choral programs.  Walton High School and Pope High School are always growing and extending the knowledge of the Dodgen alumni.  They also offer many different experiences for their students such as international trips to Europe and prestigious concerts at locations such as Carnegie Hall in New York City and Saint Patrick’s Cathedral in Boston.

A daily routine in Chorus starts with vocal and physical warm-ups, and then our class activities focus on building music reading skills and vocal performance skills. We enjoy analyzing, performing, and connecting to various genres of music throughout the year. Each group performs in two concerts outside of school (one in the fall and one in the spring), and also performs in our District-wide Large Group Performance Evaluation in the Spring.

All 6th Grade students attended a presentation on Chorus, Orchestra and Band on the first day of school, and will have a chance to rotate through each of these areas during this first week of school. During this week, our hope is that students seriously consider which group they feel the most connected to. Almost 90% of our student body is involved in a music program, and it is our goal that students join in sixth grade and stay enrolled in the same music group for their full three years of middle school. Do not miss out on the opportunity to get enrolled in a music group, as sixth grade is your only chance to join!

We will be thrilled to welcome you to the Dodgen Chorus family if you choose to join sixth grade chorus! If you have any questions, please visit our website at www.dodgenchorus.com or feel free to contact us directly-
